COZUMEL is less than USA TO livehttps://youtu.be/vOtfA65qYVE

I’ve been asked many times about our living expenses here in Cozumel compared to Texas and the U S in general. So I’ve spent a few days researching that. With the exception of gas, and some private schools, it is much less expensive here in Mexico. However, Cozumel is one of the more expensive places to live in Mexico. In other non tourist oriented areas it’s even less expensive. Everyone’s experience is probably a bit different, but this is what I found. All prices are in U S dollars for simplicity. I don’t want to confuse anyone with 2 currencies. The current exchange rate is about 17.1 pesos to 1 U S dollar. These are average prices but of course it varies.

Private health insurance for a married couple per month:

U S – 1,600 full coverage with a 10,000 deductible

Mexico – 275 full coverage monthly with a 7,000 deductible.

Private K – 12 school tuition

U  S – 12,340 is the average tuition among the nation’s 22,440 private schools. All internationally accredited.

Mex – 9.918 is the average for the 3 private schools here in Cozumel. Private schools are bilingual, but all official business is conducted in Spanish. Throughout Mexico tuition varies widely between 6,300 and as high as 38,400 per year. All these schools are internationally accredited. Private schools in Mexico City tend to be the most expensive.

FYI – Public transportation in Mexico is cheap, reliable, and available city to city or within a city. Many people here don’t have cars and public transportation is reliable because it has to be. The buses are clean, comfortable, and air conditioned. Buses between cities have bathrooms and include a movie.
